The Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI), Society, Work and Politics Institute
(SWOP) and the Johannesburg Crisis: Concerned Academics*, launch a seminar
series to offer scholars, researchers, and postgraduate students an opportunity to
share their ongoing work, either by discussing work in progress or presenting upcoming
and new publications on the City of Johannesburg.

In this seminar series we welcome empirical and theoretical research on local
government and governance, the energy sector and urban infrastructure, “corruption”
and “anticorruption” politics, urban crisis and response to it.

The aim of this seminar series is to provide a collaborative space and an academic
dialogue with scholars and researchers who are interested in governance,
infrastructure, urban crisis and have conducted research on the City of Johannesburg.
For the series, we envisage a 30-minute presentation, followed by a discussant (a
scholar, a public servant or a civil society representative) and then an open conversation.

Deadline for abstract submission (500 words): July 31st 2024.
Accepted abstracts will be notified by August 15th 2024.
The series will start in late August 2024 and the seminars will take a hybrid
format to accommodate participants not based in Johannesburg.
