As we celebrate Wits in its centenary year, it is also important to reflect on the moments of challenge, contestation, and contradiction that have shaped it over time. SWOP has, therefore, come together with others to cultivate a space for critical reflections on the different ways in which the university has functioned, been experienced, and been responded to in a changing society. This, we hope, will allow us to continue to imagine and relate to the university as a place of critique.

Over the next few weeks and months, we will host a series of events, seminars, music and poetry performances to explore questions related to the constitution of Wits as a contested space, a space of struggle, a space of difference, a space of dissent.

In our first event, we re-member the coming together of students and workers in struggle in 2015 under #Oct6. The event is being co-hosted by the Wits History Workshop.
