Tilda Nkomo joined SWOP in 2021 as a Master’s intern. In 2018, Tilda graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Arts General from the University of Zimbabwe. In December 2019, she completed her one-year Honors Degree in Economic History at the same institution. Her Special Honours thesis investigated the social and economic history of artisanal mining compounds in Unit Mine, Kwekwe, between 2000 and 2018. Tilda is now completing a Master of Arts by research in history at the University of Witwatersrand. She was awarded a scholarship through SWOP’s “Violent States, States of Violence” project. Her current research examines the relationship between artisanal mining and violence in Kwekwe from 1980 to 2022. Her dissertation seeks to examine the various dimensions of local (community) and national-level violence and how they manifest in the social and political activities of everyday Zimbabwean life.
